I’m Gus, and I’m the Fix-It Daughter
I’m a child of an architect/contractor and parents who renovated houses as we lived in them and moved every two years. I was raised in sawdust and moving boxes, in the midst of projects and renovations.
As an adult, I have enjoyed renovating my own homes and consider my space a perpetually unfinished project. However, like many women, I hesitate to ask for help from the experts for the plain and simple reason of not wanting a strange man in my home.
The Fix It Daughter was born while helping a girlfriend install a bidet. She’d been putting it off simply because she wasn’t quite confident in how to do it herself and didn’t want to call help. One wine night, we sat ourselves down on her bathroom floor while I showed her how to install it and chatted about how women don’t want to ask men for help for a myriad of reasons. Safety, mansplaining and predatory pricing when they expect us not to know any better being the top offenders.
We weren’t all raised fix it daughters, but we can all have a fix it bestie, and that’s what I’m here to be! I promise to teach as I go (if you want to learn!) and to offer fair pricing to women in the Raleigh area, but mainly to offer a sense of safety about who you allow in your home.

What Can I Help With?
In general, I do small, handyman-type projects. If you’re looking to paint your space, spruce up with some new lighting or a new ceiling fan, replace a fixture in your kitchen or bathroom, plant a garden, even redo your kitchen cabinets, I’m your gal. I can handle small wall patches, minor construction and basic electrical or plumbing work.
Always wanted a garbage disposal? Let’s do it! Really hate the colors inside your new home? I love to paint! Have builder-grade fixtures that just need some character? I’m all in to help you personalize your space. I believe in color, in dressing our homes to suit us, and in throwing out the rulebooks that dictate that what’s best for resale is how you should live in your home. Why not live in a space that makes you happy NOW, and worry about resale when it’s time?

Who is the Fix-It Daughter For?
The Fix-It Daughter is a service for women by women, because sometimes we just don’t want strange men in our homes. For my safety and yours, an inquiry will require a phone conversation to verify you before a work date will be set.
Any members of the household other than the verified contact who will be home during the requested work will need to be disclosed ahead of time (we know stuff happens though, give us as much heads up as you have).
No work will be performed in a home with only men present.
The Fix-It Daughter reserves the right to refuse or leave any job not meeting the designated criteria or which makes anyone feel unsafe, you OR me.
